The Blue Screen of Death (also known as a stop error, bluescreen, Blue Screen of Doom, BSoD, bug check screen or Stop screen) is an error screen displayed by operating systems after a crash.By default, most Windows installations are programmed to automatically restart after a BSOD which makes reading the STOP error code nearly impossible.

Blue screen errors can occur if a serious problem causes Windows 7 to shut down or restart unexpectedly. You might see a message that says, "Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.To troubleshoot the blue screen error, boot the computer into Safe Mode.
- From the Desktop right-click on My Computer.
- Click the Properties option.
- In the System Properties window click the Advanced tab or the Advanced system settings link.
- In Advanced click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery.
- In the Startup and Recovery window uncheck the Automatically restart check box.
- Click Ok.
Note: If you're getting a solid blue screen with no white text, you are not encountering a BSoD. It's likely a problem with your video card, monitor, or other hardware. Follow the no display on monitor troubleshooting steps to diagnose this problem.
